China Mobile and Apple announced the deal Dec. 22. China Mobile, which has 760 million subscribers, said it would begin selling the iPhone in its stores on Jan. 17. Both companies began taking pre-orders Dec. 25.
Apple CEO Tim Cook visited a China Mobile store in Beijing on Jan. 17 to mark the carrier's release of the iPhone in China. Apple and China Mobile received 1 million iPhone preorders. A 16GB iPhone 5s costs 5,288 yuan ($874), and a 16 GB iPhone 5c costs 4,488 yuan ($742) without a subsidy.
