Starting Feb. 10, Sonora has banned parents from giving their children at least 61 names, including "Facebook," "Rambo," and "Circuncision" (Circumcision). Officials -- who found instances of all the banned names list in newborn registries -- said the list could grow as more registries are combed.
The law is very clear because it prohibits giving children names that are derogatory or that don't have any meaning and that can lead to bullying.
– Cristina Ramirez , Sonora state Civil Registry director
The banned names are considered discriminatory, libelous and meaningless. A name made of a sign or an abbreviation is also not allowed. Other specifically banned names (translated from Spanish) include Lady Di, Scrotum, Martian and Juan Panties.
